JOURNEY…

Kai Xin is now 11 years old, this blog was created by my close friend (ex-colleague in Formis) which began from mid-2009 to appeal for fund to help Kai Xin for liver transplant operation in Singapore.

Time flies so fast, it‘s been 10 years. Now, Daddy is at the age of 40 and mommy is still look young and pretty as “every year 25”.

Over the years, Kai Xin has grown up a lot together with her loving brother Yi Xuan. Her naughty brother always describing sister has a “spectacular” curly hair (爆炸头) with specs wearing on her face. She is independence, demanding  (especially on girl’s stuffs and foods), brave and strong but sometime emotional.

In view of her academy results in primary school, she still finding “loss direction” in her study. However, 2nd half of 2019 results were improved due to her interest in reading comics. On the other side, her art crafting works is learn much faster than academic study.  Nevertheless, watch Hong Kong TVB drama is her “must do” activity after everyday dinner with limited time (except exam week).

Both have been well trained by their “disciplinary” daddy as they need to wake up very early every morning (with no excuse on PH, Sunday and even “CNY NinChorYat”). Usually, we will go to a nearby public recreation park during weekends/ non-school day latest by 7 am. We enjoyed our time together with fast walk, chit-chat, play badminton, story sharing and “kung-fu fighting” between daddy and Yi Xuan (of course sometimes Kai Xin will join us as well).

We believe to build and embed a good moral guide to them since young is much better than everything. We have participated in a Chinese traditional culture education class (DiZiGui) on every Sunday morning since 2014. After many classes attended, we realized that indeed the “change” should come from us (the parents) instead of children because we are their learning example in their growing age.

About Kai Xin’s health, she is still taking anti-rejection medication everyday with moderate dosage. Other than this, her diet is as usual as normal people but we prefer her to take more hygienic & nutrition foods and less fast and junk foods such as McDonald, Maggi Mee and etc. Well, she has tons of favorite foods in her mind such as fish, Hakka Horpoleicha, sushi (only Kani Maki and egg Mayo), mee hoon soup, potamo, pumpkin, banana, papaya, indian tosei and roti canai, spaghetti, mushroom cheese bread, yogurt and unstoppable Isomil soymilk since her transplant until now.

We still bringing her to follow up (medical annual screening) at NUH, Singapore on yearly basis and having blood test locally on quarterly basis. We always emphasis to her that LOVE is directly affect to everyone’s health.  You must LOVE your cells, organs, body and everything then only can lending your hand to help or love others because the body is given by the parents especially from 10 months of pregnancy until mommy fighting pain and delivered. Whenever you sick or body hurt is directly hurting to parents’ heart. Therefore, life is precious to everyone in this world especially we can stay in this peaceful and free of natural disaster land.

Moving forward, Kai Xin has to step into phase III of her growing life become teenager (she told us that next year is the last to celebrate children’s day in primary school). Our guidance and giving care to her will be much more different than before, because she has her own thought, face physiologic change, new influence on her personal emotions, mixing of new friends and etc. Well, this a true life…

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to deliver our heartfelt appreciation to our families, friends, colleagues, doctors, nurses, teachers and everyone whom we don’t know to continue giving us on spirit support, blessing, guidance, helps and so on…

Please help Elynna Cheah

It’s 2014. Chinese New Year festive has just gone not so far, and we just stepped into month of March. 12 Mar afternoon, I have received a call from a mother (who got my mobile no. from her facebook’s friend) said that her daughter was diagnosed Biliary Atresia and failed Kasai operation and need to carry out liver transplant as soon as possible. It is very unfortunate to hear this kind of news and I had tried my best to help and share with her on how she and her husband can reach the “destination” (liver transplant to save her baby girl ‘Elynna Cheah’).

Well, at this stage fund and spirit support is very important for the family to ride thru and over this storm.

Fund, they are soliciting the fund from public through newspaper (China Press and Nanyang Press already released the news during last weekend). It is a positive move and good start for the journey.

Secondly, spirit support from family, relatives, friends and those anonymous who will soon become friends. No matter is Chinese, Indian, Malay and other races, they are willing to help out in various ways such as fund donation, diet supplement donation, and even pray for you with their own religious and so on.

This again will show us the kind of human beings. At here, The Lokes family wish Elynna Cheah get well soon and Kai Xin’s motto “Never give up, miracle is always there”.

You may read more about Elynna Cheah on her blog http://elynna2509.blogspot.com/.

Grow...

Almost two years The Lokes never update this blog.

First of all, Kai Xin is grow up well and she has gone through many round of treatments after liver transplant done in 2009 i.e. rejection treatments; viral infection treatments; stent removal procedure in year 2012; biliary stone removal in year 2013. Every treatment on her, she grown stronger and braver than previous. Nevertheless, the parents also turned those obstacle force become our motivating force.

We learn, experience and face the reality, from here we use a philosophy to educate Kai Xin along her growing journey, never afraid, "face it - accept it - solve it - release it".
Year 2013, Kai Xin started her kindergarden school life, at first the parents had to accompanied her and she kept looking around. Come to end of the year, now she can write, read, paint, draw, sing, dance on the stage in school performance day, play and 'ket poh' with her friends in school. She is consider smallest size within her age group in school however she is the bravest and loudest in school.

Yi Xuan's birthday
Well, we thank you all the people who support us before in making this miracle happened and we will continue to share our experience to those biliary atresia child and those who need to undergo liver transplant operation.

Never give up, miracle is always there.

***************************************************************************

Best Regards

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 !!!

It’s the time to greet all my family members, relatives, friends, colleagues and others who we never met before but they have gave us a big support during The Lokes’s toughest days.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!!!

Kai Xin is growing up as a normal kid, eat-play-sleep. Nowadays, she has another role in our family “housekeeping commander”, she always ask us to clean up the dishes after eat; require everything has to be tidy up like clothes, toys la and etc; sometimes she will use her face towel to start cleaning the floor, sofa, and her toys.

You all try to guess what is her favorite cartoon lately? Last time is Pink Panther, then Mickey Mouse … now is Elmo’s World by Sesame Street. She will not miss out every Sat and Sun 8.00am show on Astro Channel 613. Although it has been repeat few times on the channel, but she still love it very much. We have bought Elmo’s bottle, book, sticker and lanyard, but not the Elmo’s doll lo (because it’s too expensive).

In last two month, we have travelled to NUH often due to Kai Xin’s liver enzymes were abnormal. After several checkups and doctor has prescribed a steroid for her to take, finally her liver enzymes back to normal level. We have to say big thank you to the Prof. in NUH because of his experience, decision and immediate action that he has taken to treat Kai Xin.

Last and not least, we would like to share the latest photo that we taken from Kai Xin with all of you.

Kai Xin Transplanted 1 Year (YEAH...)

It has been few months The Lokes didn’t update the blog, because daddy and mummy are very busy working in day time and taking care Kai Xin in the night time.

Flash back to the month of July, Kai Xin was admitted NUH to undergo PTC (Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiogram) procedure for stent removal. The reason to carry out the procedure is Kai Xin was developed few episode of fever on and off in past few months. Therefore, the surgical team suspected the stent was placed between common bile duct and intestine which caused the fever (a foreign body in human body for certain of period may cause viral or bacterial infection). Furthermore, this stent position is also very sensitive and critical because it’s at the connection for bile flow.

On PTC day, Prof, radiologist and doctors were prepared for the procedure in the early morning. We were accompanied Kai Xin till the procedure room. Wao, the room is extremely cool. At that time, Kai Xin was quite sleepy because doctor has given her sedation with oral medicine. The procedure started 8.30 in the morning. Fortunately, after an hour time the surgeon told us that the stent position is not in critical position and it was move into intestine route. The stent will not come out because it has moved to the intestine deadlock position. Most importantly, it wouldn’t implicate the liver normal function for future times. Again, it makes us happy and feel released after we heard that.

Other than this, Kai Xin is having a good development like crawling, standing with support, but she still feel lazy to walk and very nervous in any actions. On her medicine wise, she is now only consuming one anti-rejection medicine (Tacrolimus) with low dosage compare to early time.

Thank you again for all the family members, relatives, colleagues and friends who give prays and support to her all the times.
Time fly, she already underwent transplant for more than 1 year lol (Hoooray)…..

(This update suppose to be posted on 19 Jul 2010, because daddy and mummy are too busy)

Kai Xin's Latest in Sin Chew Jit Poh's Metro Edition

Kai Xin as of 26 February 2010

Kai Xin has been discharged two days ago after 10 days of hospitalisation and antibiotic therapy was given. Yesterday, the doctor repeat the blood test and showed the liver enzymes are in normalising trend and diagnosed the fever was caused by viral infection.

During the 10 days of hospitalisation, Kai Xin has made a new friend namely 'Shuen Shuen'. She is 2 month younger than Kai Xin and also Biliary Atresia baby. She admitted to UM on the same day with Kai Xin due to fever caused by viral infection. She had succeed after Kasai procedure due to underwent the operation within 60 days (Golden period) after born. Shuen Shuen has to take few months to recover after the operation and now her jaundice is totally gone and liver is functioning well. Excellent!

Haha, she is more chubby than Kai Xin and very active and cheerful. Same, we will wish her and her family happy and healthy forver.

GONG XI FATT CAI!

Dear all, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone GONG XI FATT CAI and may Tiger year bring more JOY, HAPPINESS, GOOD HEALTH, PEACE, GREAT FORTUNE and PROSPERITY to EVERYONE.

After Kai Xin had mild rejection near the year end of 2009, now she is doing well. Last week, we brought her to repeat the blood test in UMSC, the blood result shown the liver is functioning well. Nowadays, she is eat well, play well and catching up her developments in progress. Latest is standing and walking with support, calling "Ah Ba, Ah Ba", "Ah Ma, Ah Ma".

Initially, I would like to post this update on 14 Feb 10 ("Nian Chor Yat"). Due to Kai Xin has developed fever on CNY eve and she admitted UM on "Nian Chor Yee". So now, her fever is settled down, and the liver function is improved compare to the day she admitted. The doctors will continue the blood tests and antibiotics for her next few days.

31 December 2009

Kai Xin as of 31 Dec 2009

Kai Xin was running a fever last week and we admitted her to UM for a blood test. The result shown that some of the index were abnormal, so the Singapore doctor advice was to closely monitor her. Doctor also gave her antibiotics thru IV as they suspected viral infection.

On 28 Dec, blood test was repeated. This time, some of liver panel indexes spike up a lot, some has doubled and one is tripled as compared to previous week. We quickly contacted the coordinator in Singapore. They required us to have ultrasound and biopsy on the liver. We can carry biopsy in UM but it takes a longer time for the result to be out.

We decided not to wait and seek UM's Professor's opinion. He suggested to go NUH and carry out the test.

We reached NUH around 8am on 29 Dec. The doctors arranged the assessment (ultrasound and liver biopsy) and blood test immediately for Kai Xin.

Today, the doctor informed that the preliminary result shown is rejection, but the rejection is on the bile duct area. The full report will be released next week. So anti-rejection medicine thru IV was prescribed for 3 days. Besides, they will also look for the next action on how treat those bile ducts that were dilated in the liver (not massive, just small portion).

Her other developments look normal - eat, play, sleep well... even her stools' colour is of healthy colour. We have asked the doctors why the rejection happened? Is it caused by the viral infection or whatever? But the doctors can only say there are many possibilities, and important thing is to act fast and monitor closely.

Looks like Kai Xin, Huey Jing, my mother-in-law and I will have to celebrate the new year in Singapore.

We would like to wish you Health,
So you may enjoy each day in comfort.

We wish you the Love of friends and family,
And Peace within your heart.

We wish you Wisdom to choose priorities,
For things that really matter in life.

We wish you Generousity so you may share,
All good things that come to you.

We wish you Happiness and Joy,
And Blessings for the New Year.

Thank you for everything you have done for us. Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Eric

Kai Xin as of 6 October 2009

Kai Xin's appetite is getting better, she is willing to eat porridge even though milk is still her favourite "food". On the development wise, she can balance better these days while sitting on a baby walker. Her physical movement has improved due to more energy and stamina.

She is always happy and cheerful. Here are more Kai Xin's photo as per requests. Errr yes, she's bald cos we shaved her hair as she perspire a lot due to her activeness :D

Again we would love to thank you everyone who have helped us to make this possible. Without your help, seeing Kai Xin so cheerful now would not be possible. Perhaps attention can be shifted to assist Yen Kee now.

Circulation Of Our Appeals

It has been brought to our attention that our friends' emails (circa late May/early June) appealing for assistance are still in circulation. One of our friend still receives phone calls and emails to authenticate the appeal.

We would love to bring to your attention that we have successfully raised enough money for Kai Xin's transplant within a month plus. Kai Xin had undergone the transplant and recuperated in NUH Singapore for about 3 months. She has recently came back to Kuala Lumpur and she's recovering fine.

Yayasan Sin Chew addressed this matter on 30 September 2009 and the content as shown below.

20 September 2009

Kai Xin as of 20 September 2009

Latest update received from Eric and Huey Jing...

Kai Xin vomits after drinking milk but it's not a frequent occurrence. Firstly, we suspected it could be due to her activeness, twisting around and such which might caused her to vomit. Secondly, it could be viral infection in her stomach because her immuno system was surpressed. Thirdly, could be side effect of the medication she's taking. Her blood test result has shown her liver enzyme is a bit high, so she might be having viral infection.

Other than these, she is very active, playful, and cheerful. Her weight has not improve much but her abdomen is back to normal. Her appetite kept changing, which is a headache for them because she only want MILK even though we're introducing more solids to her.

Doctor has reduce some of the medicines, and ask us to have a close monitor on the frequency of her vomiting. Therefore, Kai Xin and Huey Jing are still staying at Singapore until further advice by the doctors.

Wishing all Muslims Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Maaf, Zahir & Batin.

Kai Xin as of 2 September 2009

Kai Xin had her first check up last week and everything was fine. She's gaining weight and eating well. She's also very active these days and able to turn her body now. Albeit a little low in protein, she's now being fed with more solids ie. porridge cooked with meat inside.

Eric has come back to KL and started working this week. Huey Jing is recovering well and still stays in Singapore until green light is given by Kai Xin's doctors. With them is Huey Jing's mother who is helping her to take care of Kai Xin and bringing them to the hospital for the weekly checkups.
