Kai Xin as of 31 Dec 2009

Kai Xin was running a fever last week and we admitted her to UM for a blood test. The result shown that some of the index were abnormal, so the Singapore doctor advice was to closely monitor her. Doctor also gave her antibiotics thru IV as they suspected viral infection.

On 28 Dec, blood test was repeated. This time, some of liver panel indexes spike up a lot, some has doubled and one is tripled as compared to previous week. We quickly contacted the coordinator in Singapore. They required us to have ultrasound and biopsy on the liver. We can carry biopsy in UM but it takes a longer time for the result to be out.

We decided not to wait and seek UM's Professor's opinion. He suggested to go NUH and carry out the test.

We reached NUH around 8am on 29 Dec. The doctors arranged the assessment (ultrasound and liver biopsy) and blood test immediately for Kai Xin.

Today, the doctor informed that the preliminary result shown is rejection, but the rejection is on the bile duct area. The full report will be released next week. So anti-rejection medicine thru IV was prescribed for 3 days. Besides, they will also look for the next action on how treat those bile ducts that were dilated in the liver (not massive, just small portion).

Her other developments look normal - eat, play, sleep well... even her stools' colour is of healthy colour. We have asked the doctors why the rejection happened? Is it caused by the viral infection or whatever? But the doctors can only say there are many possibilities, and important thing is to act fast and monitor closely.

Looks like Kai Xin, Huey Jing, my mother-in-law and I will have to celebrate the new year in Singapore.

We would like to wish you Health,
So you may enjoy each day in comfort.

We wish you the Love of friends and family,
And Peace within your heart.

We wish you Wisdom to choose priorities,
For things that really matter in life.

We wish you Generousity so you may share,
All good things that come to you.

We wish you Happiness and Joy,
And Blessings for the New Year.

Thank you for everything you have done for us. Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Eric
