Kai Xin as of 28 July 2009

Update from Eric:

Kai Xin is still staying in the ICU. The reason she needed to stay so long in the ICU is because her lungs are weak after the operation. Her lungs were the primary concern of the surgical team and it is also as expected. After long hours of operation, usually the lungs will need to take time to recover especially the breathing part. Since Kai Xin is still young, she needed the ventilator machine to support her so that there is enough oxygen and pressure for her lungs to expand.

Kai Xin's development is very good, she is a true fighter. Yesterday, the ventilator machine support is removed, x-ray was done after that. Her lungs are better as compare to previously.

As for her liver, the last few days, her liver function test showed her new liver is functioning well, bile flow and blood circulation are also good. Kai Xin has strived through the 1st critical period (Doctor told us there are 3 periods that are very important to her, first week after operation, first month after operation, and first year after operation. Her condition will considered to be stable if she can pass these 3 critical periods.). Her jaundice level had came down 50% within the week and her abdomen is much smaller as compared to pre-operation.

Regarding her feeding, she was fed with milk few days ago. On the first day after the operation, they gave her glucose water, but the digestion was not too good. However, the next few days onwards, her digestion got better. So they decided to give the milk feeding. At this moment, she is still using the Nasogastric feeding tube. This morning, the Doctor told me that she has to start to take her food orally which is excellent as this will be another great big move, I am wishing her Nasogastric tube can be removed ASAP.

The rest like passing motion and urine are also good. She is getting very conscious now especially when the medical team touches her, she will begin to cry.

Now, the physiotherapist said she has to cough and cry more to improve her lungs.

Last but not least, thank you everyone for the well wishes and support.

Regards,
Eric Loke

Update from Huey Jing:

I am fine and resting well at home. I went to the hospital for post operation check-up on Monday. My blood result looked fine with good improvement and my liver is recovering well. I managed to wake up from bed this morning without my mum's assistant. My wound is about 11.3 inches long and I feel better now, not as painful as before. I've stopped applying pain killer medicine.

Eric just told me this morning, little Kai Xin smiled at him today after so many days in pain. Daddy is very happy. Indeed, Kai Xin is a fighter!

We will continue stay strong with all the prayers and supports from everyone.

Once again thank you very much from us.

Warmest Regards,
Huey Jing

Transplant is Postponed

Thank you for all your prayers but the transplant is postponed to 19 July 2009 (Sunday) as the Chief Surgeon is not well.

Kai Xin's fever is under control now as her fever had made a come back last Saturday prompting the doctors to run some tests on her. Thank goodness all results came out all right and Kai Xin would be able to go ahead with the transplant.

Transplant Date is Confirmed!

One of us was down in Singapore on Wednesday and paid a visit to Kai Xin. We were told she's very very cute and she's holding on great there. At the same time, one of the chief doctor came and informed them the tentative transplant date would be done next Wednesday.

It is with great joy to announce that Eric had updated us today that the transplant date is CONFIRMED to be on 15 July 2009 (next Wednesday)!!!

We rejoice to hear this and all these would not have been possible to achieve in such a short time without your generous donations, support and prayers.

The transplant will start off with Huey Jing which will last about 4 hours, before Kai Xin's turn for 12 hours. With these, we would pray for both of them for a successful transplant and we hope you would join us too in prayers.

Thank you very much on behalf of The Lokes.

Kai Xin as of 8 July 2009

The pediatric surgeon visited Kai Xin yesterday and mentioned that the transplant can go ahead but then need to settle her fever first. The pediatric surgeon is a very busy person and have transplant scheduled on a weekly basis. Hence there is no date scheduled for Kai Xin as yet. Since Kai Xin and Huey Jing are in Singapore now, preparing and scheduling for the transplant would be easier. Since Kai Xin is well taken care of, we supposed a little wait should be all right, moreover it will give her opportunity to put on more weight.

She was fussing a little cause 3 teeth are coming out at the same time, despite all these Eric said she managed to smile this week. It has been a long time since she last smile according to him.

Kai Xin is a real fighter indeed!

We Have Met The Target!

Thank you! Thank you!

My family and I would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to all of you for your kind contribution and emotional support.

We are very grateful and relived to be able to announce that the funds raised through Yayasan Sin Chew, China Press, The Star and a large part of your donations to Kai Xin's account HAVE MET the target.

We are all very grateful to all of you who have contributed to make Kai Xin's liver transplant possible. Thank you so much. We should be getting the funds by next week to pay the deposit to NUH so that the transplant can go ahead.

While the cost of the liver transplant is now taken care of, our prayers and hope are for our little Kai Xin to have a successful operation. We cherish your prayers still.

At the moment, Kai Xin's condition is stable and she is not losing her weight. Yesterday, the doctor here changed her milk formula to another brand and so far Kai Xin has accepted the milk and could tolerate it. In the meantime, we are attempting to have Kai Xin put on some weight whilst waiting for the transplant date to be set. Huey Jing have to go through some counseling sessions and next week she will be interviewed by a Transplant Ethical Committee next week - these are the normal procedures to ensure that the donor is ready to donate the liver.

Thank you all once again for your generous donation and support, at least one part of the hurdle is surpassed and though there may be more as we go on , we know we can continue with your prayers and support.

Yayasan Sin Chew have published about it on Wednesday.

We apologise for not able to update here on a daily basis but we will try to make it as often as we could from the hospital.

May you all be well and happy.

Regards,
Eric
